STORY

How to Become an Adult Well with Art was originally developed for a 3-day workshop held at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Tokyo, with 14 children ranging from 11 to 15 years old and 12 college students.

Drawing inspiration from "Instruction Art," where art is completed through individual interpretation and participation, I organized this workshop to broaden the narrow definition of "art" often tied to specific beauty. I intended to encourage the kids to recognize that being different is beautiful and art exists in everyday things and life. The experience spaned from experimenting with Instruction Art prepared by me to creating original instructions by participants and presenting their performance manifestation.

Examples of instructions included "Imagine yourself. Buy ‘you’ worth 1,000 yen" and "Pretend to sleep. Mold the dream you had into something tangible."
On the final day, we hosted a concert (presentation) where kids participants performed the "instructions" they had created. This was followed by an exhibition showcasing objects and performance archives with the original instructions from the workshop, displayed in cases created for the exhibition "Revolution/Art of the 1960s, from Warhol to Beuys (1995)" held at MOT.

To create an environment where participants can immerse themselves in the world of Instruction Art, especially for those who may be unfamiliar with the concept.

アートで上手に大人になる方法は、東京都現代美術館 (MOT) にて開催された11歳から15歳の子ども14名と12名の大学生ボランティアの参加者と共に実施した夏休みのワークショップ企画でした。３日間のワークショップを通じて、現代アート (コンセプチュアルアート)の理解を深めながら、現代アートの魅力や楽しさを体感することに挑戦しました。

「1000円分の自分を買いなさい」や「寝たふりをしなさい。その時に見た夢を形にしなさい」といった「上手に大人になるための指示・インストラクション」を参加者に投げかけ、その応答・表現を重ねながら、独自のアイデアや発想の大切さを感じとる企画でした。ばかばかしいことを真剣に試みながら、遊び感覚で概念的かつ哲学的なことを探求する「アート」な時間を過ごしました。

最終日には参加者自らが創作した「インストラクション」を披露するパフォーマンス・コンサート（発表会）を開催し、また終了後は3日間の活動アーカイブ展も実施しました。
本企画からの概念や方法はシリーズ化し、こどもたちの創造・表現力をテーマに活動するNPO法人CANVAS 遊びと学びのヒミツ基地などでもこども向けのWSとして開催しました。
「美術館でハ・プ・ニ・ン・グ！？アートで上手に大人になる方法」ワークショップ裏話
企画担当をなさった郷泰典学芸員からの「『美術のび』って実はびっくりの『び』！」というユーモア溢れるオープニングトークを皮切りにワークショップがスタートしました。上手におとなになる方法マインドセットを参加者と共に話をし、ワークショップでは、偶然性や予期せぬことを大切に、「ハプニング」という名の下、小学生から大学生までの参加者全員で様々な「上手に大人になる指示・インストラクション」を体験したり、自ら考えてみたりしました。
ワークショップを通じて一つ一つの行為に対して理由（なぜ）という問いを盛り込みながら、無意識に行っていることに意識や意思を向けながら上手に尊重する事で、ささいなこと、小さく思いがちなことの大切さを理解し、自分と世の中とを照らし合わせる機会を提供しました。
