Teen Arts Council (TAC) was a leadership development program using an apprenticeship structure and functioning as a creative laboratory for a diverse collective of teenagers whose goal was to connect the MFA with Greater Boston’s teens, families and communities through their intellectual contribution as internal consultants who assessed operations and exhibits, provided recommendations to administrative and curatorial staff, and designed and implemented demonstration projects for specific departments or exhibits. Through paid positions, the TAC members were introduced to a wide range of museum professions and learning opportunities while also gaining valuable work experience. I was responsible for developing this program, which launched in 2006 under the Volunteer and Community Engagement Department. There is so much more about the program.
